Ceramic fan heaters of the TDS-P series

Robust electric heating devices with metal construction and radial fan for quick, effective heat generation

Keramik-Heizlüfter der TDS-P-Serie

At first sight, what catches your eye when seeing these ceramic fan heaters is the cool, grey look of the solidly manufactured metal housing, the robust construction of which does not bother about rough surroundings or rugged handling. But immediately after switch-on you will find out how easy it is to warm up to these powerful heating devices.

Unique radial fan construction

While other heater fans of this class are fitted with customary axial fans, the fan heaters of the TDS-P series come equipped with powerful radial fans supplying higher air flow rates at a higher pressure and with lower noise emission compared to axial constructions. This is why rooms can be fully heated faster using the fan heaters of the TDS-P series. An integrated thermostat for infinitely variable temperature control and two separate heating levels allow for an individual setting of the desired heat output.

PTC heating element impresses even tough calculators

Instead of conventional heating wire technology, the fan heaters of the TDS-P series use advanced PTC ceramic heating elements for heating the air. Advantages of PTC as compared to heating wires: longer lifetime, less sensitive technology, shorter heat-up times – and no burning of dust during heating, which additionally makes these ceramic heaters suitable for allergy sufferers.

Since these devices neither produce condensate nor consume oxygen during operation, they are ideal for heating closed, non-ventilated rooms.  Safe operation is ensured by an integrated overheating protection and an additional tilt protection that automatically deactivates the devices in case they are unintentionally tipped over.

Faster air heating – more uniform room temperature

Trotec’s fan heaters with PTC ceramic heating elements (A) not only differ from conventional heating coil technology (B) in terms of their shorter heat-up times. There are also process-related differences in the response behaviour of the heating elements.

Although both devices maintain the preselected target temperature (orange) by means of thermostat control using a two-position controller, the respective temperature adaptation takes place significantly more slowly and with greater deviations from the desired target temperature in case of devices with heating coils. The reason for this is the different conductivity behaviour of the heating elements:

if current flows through the heating coils, the coils will always have the same temperature once they have heated up. For controlling the desired room temperature, the power supply is first interrupted, making the coil cool down, and then re-activated by the thermostat so that the coil heats up again completely before it is switched off again when the set target temperature is reached.

This “on/off process” causes significantly greater temperature fluctuations than with ceramic heating elements, for the material of the latter provides an integrated temperature self-regulation. The hotter PTCs get, the higher is their electrical resistivity, resulting in less current flowing through the heating element and in a reduced heating capacity, and thus in significantly lower temperature fluctuations and less switch-on and switch-off processes in thermostat-controlled operation.

For this reason, ceramic fan heaters are able to create more even room temperatures for temperature-sensitive manufacturing processes as well as a pleasant working climate.
